IIT KHARAGPUR RESEARCHERS DEVELOP DRONE-ASSISTED COMMUNICATION NETWORKS FOR 5G

GS Sanyal School of Telecommunication, IIT Kharagpur, Researchers have improved UAV-aided communication networks for 5G that can perform as an aerial mobile telecommunications tower during disasters.

On Thursday, an IIT Kharagpur statement said that the system comprises of an android-based application suited to a line of drones that are programmed to generate emergency communication networks from the nearest accessible mobile towers.

Through intelligent programming, they can deploy their 5G-connected drone caravan to a specific location, as soon as the 1st emergency indication is noted.

Prof Debarati Sen, who led the research team, said that the information in the telecommunication backbone network is broadcasted to the rescue server, fixed thousands of miles away, within the first 3 minutes of the happening of an emergency.

Whenever there are network disturbances, the drones can automatically avoid them by changing their direction.

For individuals going to an influenced district and without any cell network, they can be auto-associated with such nearby drone administration as they look for the mobile network.

MICRONEEDLE DEVELOPED BY IIT KHARAGPUR RESEARCHERS TO ADMINISTER DRUG PAINLESSLY

Sen said they have already examined the performance of the UAV network with the app ‘NerQuake in circumstances of emergency reaction in disaster management and supervision of the quality of service by deploying a caravan of 4 unmanned aerial vehicles.

They have utilized network content data of several mobile service providers in the northeastern nations in ascertaining the functionality of the app.

REGIONAL LANGUAGE POLICY NEEDED IN TECHNICAL EDUCATION SAYS IIT KHARAGPUR DIRECTOR

The researcher’s team has proposed the phase-I summary to the Union Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology which is sponsoring the program.

The investigators are open to the commercialization of this sensible UAV system. They said that these smart drones can also be helpful for crowd management, apart from a disaster situation. Moreover, these UAVs can be helpful for crop health monitoring.
