IIT DELHI AND IAF COLLABORATION TO DEVELOP DEFENSE TECHNOLOGY

IIT Delhi and IAF collaboration: Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Delhi join hands with the Indian Air Force (IAF) to develop defense technology. The aim is to support the requirements of the IAF. Moreover, to accelerate its indigenization efforts to achieve self-reliance.

Air Vice-Marshal Samir V Borade VSM, Deputy Senior Maintenance Staff Officer (Dy SMSO), Headquarters Maintenance Command, IAF, and Prof M R Ravi, Head, Departments of Mechanical Engineering, IIT Delhi have signed the Memorandum of Understanding(MoU).

Indian Air Force (IAF) has recognized the primary focus area to work on. It includes technology development and finding indigenous solutions to maintain various weapon systems. Therefore, IIT Delhi will cooperate, provide consultancy, support for the research process and, prototype development.

Further, IIT said, “Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Delhi will considerably strengthen the efforts through Base Repair Depots (BRds) of Maintenance Command IAF. Also, IIT Delhi and IAF collaboration will boost sustenance potential, indigenization, and attaining self-reliance.” 

NEARLY 150 STAFF WORKING ON DEFENSE PROJECTS

At present time,  more than 80 faculty members, nearly 150 staff, and Ph.D. students are working on several defense technology-related projects. Besides, in 2017 Institute had established a Joint Advanced Technology Center with the funding of DRDO.

Earlier, IIT Delhi signed an MoU with IntelliSmart to build advanced digitalization in the power distribution system. The collaboration objective was to create next-generation smart-grid functions. As a result, this will enhance revenue management, boost billing control and consumer satisfaction.
