IIT-ROORKEE, IIT-BOMBAY, AND IIT-KHARAGPUR in collaboration with the University of Alberta in Canada are going to have a joining doctoral degree program. In this problem, students of Canada and India will get an opportunity to undertake research at a partner institution for six months to a year for this program.

According to IIT-Roorkee, students would get a special certificate with graduation. For a joint degree program, a maximum number of two students will be admitted from each institution for each academic year. IIT will be supervisors who will supervise and identify the research performed by students during their doctoral studies.

STUDENTS WOULD GET STIPEND TO COVER THE COST OF ACCOMMODATION AND MEAL
Both Alberta and IITs have been agreed upon by providing fellowship to students that can support them financially. Students would be paid a monthly stipend so that they can cover the cost of accommodation and meals during their visit. The President of the University of Alberta, David H Turpin said that this program helps to create new opportunities for students that help them in learning new skills and it will work as a benefit of a global society. The President said that engaging with IITs is helpful in building up new skills for teaching, learning, and research.

MANY OTHER COUNTRIES HAVE COLLABORATED WITH IIT
Many other countries in the world have successfully collaborated with IIT through Joint Degree Programs. This is for the first time that Canada University has established such a program with IIT. The University of Alberta is in various partnership programs with IIT. It has been working upon with IIT-ROORKEE since 2011, with IIT-Bombay since 2009, and with IIT-Kharagpur since 2013. It has lead in many partnership programs to support academic mobility and joint research.

THIS PROGRAM WILL STRENGTHEN THE EDUCATION SECTOR
Professor Ajit Chaturvedi is the Director at IIT-Roorkee. He said that this decision will strengthen the education sector of India and Canada. IIT-Roorkee along with other IITs is looking forward to carrying on this agreement and research work with the University of Alberta. Students would get good exposure during this research. The joint degree program will be successfully executed to reach greater heights in research.
