Indian Institute of Technology Bhubaneswar begins classes for the new academic session through online mode. On-roll students and new postgraduate students of MTech, MSc and Ph.D. of IIT Bhubaneswar began their online classes amidst COVID-19.

Teachers are conducting online classes by live streaming without the physical presence of the students in the class. If compared with the beginning of the normal semester and this year’s semester, it is only three weeks’ delay due to the pandemic situation. When the situation will improve and with all the permission, students will come to the campus through an SOP.

IT IS POSSIBLE TO DEAL WITH THE CURRENT PANDEMIC

The Director Prof RV Raja Kumar of IIT Bhubaneswar said that they could start this academic year without any delay and now the only challenge they have to face is of commencing the classes of fresh and 2020-21 batch of B.Tech students. He said that the administration will conduct JEE Mains and JEE advanced in September. So, they will begin the classes a few months later and save the academic session of a fresh batch of B.Tech students. It is possible to cope up with the current pandemic situation and reduce the risk by taking precautions to give the right opportunities to the youth.

Prof Kumar of IIT Bhubaneswar said that this pandemic urged them to start the academic year online. It has both drawbacks and advantages. They have to minimize the disadvantages and capitalize on our advantages. He has addressed the faculty and advised them to teach effectively through online mode. He advised to maintain the connection and interact with the students through best practices and experimentation. They can give students some assignments and send their feedback online. Laboratory part would be done when students will return to the campus. Along with theory class, some concurrent laboratory work will also be provided to the students so that their learning is not affected due to the delay of laboratory practices.

In education, it is important to learn and that is why the role of the students as the main stakeholder is important for succeeding. The professor further said that students should be entrepreneurial to arrange the device and connection and also put the best efforts in making online learning effective.

The Dean of Academic, Dr. Pravas R Sahu said that IIT Bhubaneswar completed the education of last semester year without any delay and compromises. The authority conducted live-streaming classes and remaining laboratory classes timely. Despite the pandemic, they conducted conventional exams by creating and adopting a unique online method for the students.
