The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT BHU) Varanasi, one of the premier engineering institutions of India, proudly announced the selection of their 17 students in the civil services exam 2021. Every year over 10 to 12 students from IIT BHU qualify for the UPSC exams and secure placements at prominent positions, however, this year the number has been much higher.

Being one of India’s most competitive and difficult exams, participating in UPSC is an aspiration for the IITians. In the 70s and 80s, only a few students from IIT would take the civil services exam. However, in the last two decades, we have seen a considerable increase in the number of students appearing for civil services exams. Owing to the interest of the students, IIT BHU Alumni hosts regular counselling and knowledge sharing session for the UPSC aspirants; encouraging them to work towards a brighter future.

Congratulating students, Prof Pramod Kumar Jain, Director, IIT – BHU said, “It is a moment of immense pride for the institute as 17 of our students have qualified for one of India’s most competitive and reputed examinations – UPSC. All the faculty members and I congratulate and wish them the very best for their endeavour in this new journey. These students have become an inspiration and set a definitive example for the present batch as well as for the aspirants”.

Prof Jain also added, “We have several eminent personalities working as IAS, IFS and IPS in different departments who are the alumnus from IIT-BHU. We are hopeful that coming year our students will achieve greater heights.”
