The national coordinator for the scheme “Swayam” for various diploma and certificate courses

Professor Uma Kunjilal, Director, Center for online education and meeting coordinator of IGNOU gave the information about the multiple online programs run by Indira Gandhi National Open University, the professor said that the admission portal is open for 10 different courses today and in total 13 online programs’ admission process has been started.

In addition to this, the institute has launched the ‘Swayam’ portal, in which, new 24 courses are inculcated. The exact number of courses is now 45, to be accurate. 

The university has also offered independent courses to choose from a variety of fields like and subjects including Agricultural, Sustainability Sciences, Library and Information Science, Sociology, Law, Tourism, Languages, Information Technology, Event Management, and Visual Art.

Professor Nageshwar Rao, Vice-Chancellor of IGNOU provided the details about the newly devised online mode of programs, launched through Facebook live sessions from the 1st of June. He said that this scheme is in continuation of the university’s sincere endeavors towards MHRD’s “Bharat Padhe Online” project.

The Education Minister has started, last month, virtual courses of IGNOU such as Master’s Degree in Hindi, and in Gandhi & Peace studies and other online programs, so that it could boost the concept of e-learning amidst the coronavirus breakage in the nation. 

Prof Rao in his presidential speech also listed the programs being proposed by different academies of IGNOU on the basis of the online procedure and applauded the role played by the faculty members to make these happen smoothly with integrity without any glitch. 

VC asserted that the university has always tried to walk steadily with the changed and advanced methods of learning developed in the country. And, it chooses better technologies so that education can reach to a greater extend. 

IGNOU has been a forerunner in utilizing broadcast technology via the Gyan Darshan TV channel network and Gyan Vani FM Radio Channels.

IGNOU is the supervisor of the “Swayam” scheme and all its courses will be accessible from e-Vidya Bharti (Tele-education) platform as well for the reach beyond boundaries.

The “Swayam Scheme” 

Swayam Prabha is a bunch of 32 DTH channels which run 24 hours in all the days. The everyday new subject of at least 4 hours period is put on the website which runs 5 times each day.
