The Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) was expected to announce the dates and schedule for conducting the IAS prelims exam and others today. But instead UPSC said that it will be announcing the new revised dates on June 5.
The revised program of examinations/ RTs-2020 including the date of the civil services prelims examination will be uploaded on June 5, 2020 after making an assessment of the situation as per the UPSC.
The civil services prelims exam was scheduled on May 31, had the situation been normal. But this was postponed due tot he lockdown imposed to curtail the spread of COVID-19.
The UPSC was expected to announce the new dates today as per a notification released by the union on May 4.

Owing to the lockdown situation in the entire nation, many candidates had to travel back to their hometowns making it difficult for them to commute to exam centers. Many candidates have raised their issue and inability to travel due to the restrictions imposed on travel and many other activities.
The UPSC had said earlier in a statement that taking the notice of the issue of extension of lockdown and restrictions, they will not be able to resume examinations and interviews in the current scenario.

Admit cards will be issued by the UPSC on the official website after deciding the exam date.
Exam center, time, session, city, and all other information will be available on the admit card.
In addition to this, UPSC has also postponed all the interviews of the civil services exam 2019 which is the last phase of the civil services examination.
Keeping in view the current situation due to the outbreak of COVID-19 virus the ongoing interviews and further proceedings have been postponed.
The notification for the Indian Economic Service/Indian Statistical Service Examination, 2020; Combined Medical Services Examination, 2020; Central Armed Police Forces Examination, 2020 and the NDA & Naval Academy Examination, 2020 has already been deferred.
The civil services exams comprise three stages – namely- prelims, main and interview by the UPSC, for selecting officers for the Indian Administrative Service (IAS), the Indian Foreign Service (IFS) and the Indian Police Service (IPS), among others.
Nearly 5 lakh candidates appear for the civil services exam every year.

“Civil Services (Preliminary) Examination 2020 deferred in the wake of #Lockdown situation. Fresh dates to be notified in due course.” tweeted Union Minister Jitendra Singh on his official twitter handle.
All the IAS prelims aspirants can expect a fresh exam date to be announced on June 5 and the notification will be released on the official website of the UPSC.
