Union HRD Minister Ramesh Pokhriyal joined in the G20 Extraordinary Virtual Education Minister’s Meeting on June 27, 2020. In the meeting, the union minister conveyed the country’s different programs on Digital Education during the adverse times of COVID 19. The particular session was administered to discuss the effects of COVID-19 pandemic on education and how several countries are handling the same. The session also included matters on how the members of states can work together to enhance the cause of education.

Virtual Education Initiatives

The HRD Minister notified the education ministers of member states considering the efforts taken by the Indian Government to lessen the impact of COVID-19 on all the sectors comprising education. The minister also partook the efforts of the HRD Ministry to facilitate digital learning during the COVID19 crisis involving online platforms like DIKShA, SWAYAN, National Digital Library, e-PG Pathshala, etc.

Emphasizing that not all the students possess adequate access to the digital platforms for education, the minister has generated in TV  channels, (SWAYAM Prabha) and the Radio services for giving education to students in the distant areas in the country. The HRD Minister further stated that the e-VIDYA program will be undertaken soon as a common platform for all the e-resources for digital education under the One Nation One Digital Programme belief.

He also told that the government is planning a related show for education TV channels, ‘One Class One Channel’ wherein TV channels will be dedicated to each grade. Along with this, the top 100 institutes in the country will start a full-fledged online program shortly. The minister has intended to enhance the proper online content in the Regular, Open, and Distance Mode of Education from 20 percent to 40 percent.

Schemes for Specially abled students 

The Ministry has also initiated the process of preparing e-learning resources in eight regional speeches in the country. A Digitally Accessible Information System will also be brought in for the differently-abled pupils.

The Minister has also notified the Manodarpan which is an initiative for the Psycho-Social assistance for the students, teachers, and their families for mental health and expressive well being.

The Minister at the summit also communicated the country’s resolve towards the undertakings being taken by G20 nationals on the development and advancement of flexible learning policies including the Digital and Distance learning resource within the context of different nations.
