HOW DELHI UNIVERSITY PLANS TO REOPEN WITH OFFLINE CLASSES?

The University of Delhi has decided to call upon its final year students who need to access laboratories for attending practical classes and may ask them to return to college and departments in February. However, the DU administration has underlined the return on a voluntary basis while all the theory classes will continue to be conducted in online mode.

Is it mandatory for students to go to college in February?

The University of Delhi has been shut since March 2020 after the nationwide lockdown was imposed. In the month of August, it began the classes for odd semesters in online mode and has so far conducted two cycles of online exams. With the conclusion of the second phase of the Open Book Exam, Delhi University is now striding into the final semester for the DU students who have been attending their final semester classes online.

Rajeev Gupta, Dean of Students Welfare said that due to this, preparations are underway to permit students who wish to access the practical classes and labs are to return to Delhi University in a phased manner. He added that the students will be allowed to cover only the practical component in offline mode while all the theory lectures will continue to be held in the online mode.

He further emphasized that this is optional. The students will be given an option to come back to access laboratories and the college will not force anyone.

What if students do not want to return to Delhi University college?

The University of Delhi has been administering its practical components with online tools so far. These will proceed to be used by the understudies who do not wish to return to college.

Gupta added that the University is not going to penalize anyone. He stated that we have to consider the Delhi University students from across the country who might not have access to the required tools. They are even not compatible with actually working in a laboratory. Those students who feel the need to return for offline lab and practical work may return to the University.

What about intermediate students?

Intermediate and first-year Delhi University students will also continue with their academic syllabus online. Gupta said that the priority is to give the opportunity to final year students to carry out their practical work in College labs as it’s their final semester to finish all components of their curriculum.

He further added that students in other years can still have time to cover up and their practical components can be accommodated later if needed. However, for final year students, this is the last chance.
