Delhi High Court

A petition was sent to the Delhi High court. It says that the DU staff i.e. the teaching and non-teaching staff have not been paid salaries and other remunerations for five months. The respective colleges failed to pay the staff members for such a long period.

On this, the Delhi High Court asked the Delhi University and AAP government responses.
Social Democratic Teachers’ Front, is the organization which represents the teaching and non-staffing staff. The petition claiming the non-payment of salaries to the DU staff is sent by this organization. The petitioners also say that funds for the retiral benefits of pensioners are not released yet.

Coronavirus pandemic has already created a tough environment for the people. The non-payment of retiral benefits and salaries worsens the situation for the teaching and non-teaching staff. The hardship of the serving and retired candidates has surged.

DU PRINCIPALS: THE USAGE OF SSF FOR SALARIES’ PAYMENT IS ILLEGAL

The Delhi government and Delhi University are on the target of Justice Jyoti Singh. She issued a notice to ensure a response from the AAP government and DU.

The Delhi Government asked the Delhi University authorities to give the salaries to the teaching and non-teaching staff from the Students Society Fund. Directions were issued by the AAP government for the same. The High Court was informed about the hearing.

This move led to huge protests and criticism. Student bodies opposed the directions announced by the AAP government. Ideally, the Students Society Fund is maintained or parted out to incur the expenses of college societies. Sometimes after these expenses, funds are still left unutilized. Then the remaining funds are meant to be used in student-related endeavors.

DUSU CONDEMNS MANISH SISODIA’S STATEMENT OF UTILIZING STUDENTS FUND FOR FINANCING SALARIES

Student leaders said that the AAP government cannot use the student’s funds to hide their incompetency and inability to pay the salaries. If any college falls short of funds to incur its expenses and pay adequate salaries to the DU staff then it the responsibility of the government to release the funds.

In this case, the Delhi government has to answer why is it unable to pay the salaries of teaching and non-teaching staff.
