Modi government is working to increase the seats in Indian universities to accommodate students who were planning to take admissions to Foreign Universities but could not do so amid coronavirus pandemic.
‘Stay in India and Study in India’ is a committee formulated by the Modi government. The committee comprises of regulators from All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) and University grants commission (UGC) as the members of the committee. The committee is consulting with Indian universities and colleges to achieve the objectives of the plan.
D.P. Singh, Chairman of UGC has asked the committee to accomplish its primary objectives as soon as possible.
Anil Sahasrabudhe, the AICTE chairman confirmed the development of the committee. Sahasrabudhe is a member of the committee stay in India and study in India. He added that the government has established a committee to examine the different issues that aroused in higher education due to coronavirus. One of the major problems that have aroused is that several students will not be able to take admission into foreign universities this year.

The committee formed by the government will examine the problems and further evaluate the likelihood of boosting the number of seats in Indian Universities. The primary objective is to accommodate students in Indian Universities who can not go abroad to study in foreign countries.
The coronavirus pandemic has scrapped the plans of students who aspired to go abroad for higher education. Last week the news came up that Indian Universities are discerning a surge in the number of applications for admission. As the number of students who had planned to go abroad is now altering their plans.
Government seeks to permit the use of labs at IITs and IISc
Sahasrabudhe asserted that the committee is examining four proposals and boosting the number of seats is one of those objectives. The committee is working to lower down the effect of coronavirus on education. Another point from the list of objectives is permitting the use of labs at top institutes for research scholars. The plan aims to allow to use laboratories research scholars who have returned to the country amid coronavirus pandemic.
To this end, the Indian government will further seek for facilities at the top Indian Universities and Institutes. These institutes include the Indian Institute of Sciences (IISc), Indian Institute of Management (IIMs), and Indian Institutes of Science Education and Research (IISERs).
WHAT WILL BE THE DU ADMISSION PROCESS THIS YEAR?
Foreign returned students will, therefore, be able to use labs at the top Indian Universities and Institutions for the duration they are in India, said Sahasrabudhe.
The established committee will further conduct meetings with various Indian Universities and colleges. As the Universities will have to inform the committee that if any additional changes or up-gradation in infrastructure is needed. It will also assess whether Universities require additional funds to facilitate more students and researchers.
