New logo for vegan products

The Food Safety and Standards Authority Of India, FSSAI launches a new logo for vegan products. Moreover, it has issued a draft for vegan food products. 

The logo for veg foods is a green dot. And a brown dot for non-veg food. The new logo for vegan foods has a green leaf in the middle of the letter ‘V’ to identify vegan food products. Further, FSSAI CEO Arun Singhal says, “We have a growing movement for veganism. Hence, we came up with the vegan logo.”

Besides the new logo for vegan products, the draft has been issued. According to the draft rules, “To check the safety of the final food product or ingredient, it should not involve animal testing. Further, it should not contain animal-originated GMOs. In preparation of the product, no animal-derived genes should be used.

For the first time, India’s government gives recognition to vegan products. As per FSSAI, vegan food products are those that don’t require any animal-origin ingredients in manufacturing. Such as milk and its other products, egg, meat, honey, and more.

Further, FSSAI CEO said, “Everyone is familiar with veg and non-veg demarcations. However, there is a need for a vegan food logo too. As there is a movement towards veganism. Also, many people are allergic to milk. Therefore, the label came to help such people in avoiding animal products. Also for consumers convenience in identifying.

On Twitter, users appreciate FSSAI for introducing a new logo for vegan foods. Mansukh Mandaviya tweets, “FSSAI launches a label for vegan foods to help consumers easily distinguish from non-vegan foods.”
