On Tuesday, the IIT placements kicked off virtually. The biggest domestic packages across IITs were higher than those offered in 2019, while the total number of international offers were lower than the figures of the previous year.
18 companies offered jobs across sectors and the highest annual package was Rs 46.41 lakhs offered by Qualcomm, in the first half of the day shared by IIT-Bombay, as per the reports of IIT placements. The highest domestic annual package for last year was Rs 32.59 lakh from Qualcomm. Proprietary trading firm Optiver offered the highest international salary package of Rs 1.39 crore.
The annual package for a domestic role, at IIT- Roorkee, saw a rise with Rs 80 lakh being offered. This is more than the offer of last year which was at Rs 62.2 lakh.
A spokesperson for the institute said that on day one of placements, a total of 25 companies offered over 272 domestic jobs and three international offers. There were 10 international job offers in the first half of the first day last year. In the corresponding time this year, three international job offers were made. Seven international job offers had been made at this time in 2018.
An IIT-B official said that they were expecting lower international job offers this year because of the pandemic.

Microsoft, which has offered the highest international packages across IITs three years in a row said that some recruiters, however, have assured a one-year stint in India followed by an international stint to a handful of students. This year, Microsoft offered only domestic roles in IIT placements.
123 job offers from 22 companies were received by students at IIT-Madras. On Tuesday, the institute said that the total number of jobs offers on day one is higher than in any preceding year, 102 jobs were offered by 20 companies on day one the previous year. Microsoft and Texas instruments had made the highest number of job offers with 19 and 12 jobs respectively, they were followed by ISRO and Bajaj Auto with 10 jobs each.
Across all IITs, the pre-placement offers were higher than last year. 153 PPOs were accepted by students of IIT-B by Tuesday. 182 PPOs were received by students at IIT-Madras as compared to last year’s 170. Prof. Vinay Sharma, professor-in-charge, placement and internship, IIT-Roorkee said that they were still expecting more job offers for various profiles over the next few days.
