How to prepare

Quantitative Aptitude:

This section is the one that chief non-mathematics students stress, not to forget, the scoring column of engineer background students. A strategy should include the following:

  1. a) Aspirants need to revise the basics of all chapters. This is proposed because CAT has over the years, judged pupils their proficiency to understand basics rather than the ability to undertake complicated questions.
  2. b) The following two weeks should be spent on figuring the advanced material from the study resources provided. The priority should not be on time spend to solve the problem but rather on the familiarity of the technique used to solve and the principle entailed.
  3. c) The other days in the left for CAT should be consumed working out the problems from the Mocksthat one has carried over the prior months. The Mocks have a criterion of questions present that is relatively near to the real CAT and the understanding that one can develop by working them out would surely benefit them.

Data Interpretation:

This category is the one that expects the least amount of theories to be memorized and exercised. The agenda for this category should be as follows:

  1. The basic study resources are to be promptly revised and primary concepts of Speed Math to be enhanced ( transfer of fractions to percentages and vice versa, quick addition, percentages computation, speed, and distance). This action should be completed in about a week’s time.
  2. The next phase would be to exercise the batches given in the Mock CATs, which shall continue till the week of the CAT. The focus here is more on knowing the strategy that one should carry after glancing at the data rather than on the original solving of the problems.
  3. They should attempt to solve some puzzles from puzzle books that are actually accessible at all major book stores. This is so because CAT appears to be moving more towards the practical puzzles than anything else if the movement of the past few years is any evidence.

Verbal Ability:

The section that drained the confidence of many students in CAT 2016 was the Verbal/RC area and things might just be similar this year as well. A plan for this section needs to be-

  1. Try to give at least 1.5 hours every day to reading practice. This could be from important newspapers, weekly journals, or from online references. In this case, it would be a great notion to avert tabloid newspapers i.e. newspapers that dedicate to sensationalizing news and not on the decent old reporting. This action should every day without fail until the CAT.
  2. Week based newspapers like the Frontline, India Today, Newsweek, TimesNow are decent. The reading of articles published in these newspapers will assist one habitual to the several kinds of paragraphs and thereby reduces the unfamiliar characteristic in the exam.

The other significant areas to concentrate on would be Grammar as a few relevant questions come from this. The promising senior grammar books like ‘Wren & Martin’ are yet favorable for this area and an early revision is a key box is present there as well.

Some students are extremely disturbed by the issues on Vocabulary as they believe that preparing for it is like swimming across an ocean. At last the moment, it is ineffective to begin and enhance vocabulary. Refer Word power made easy by Norman Lewis to enhance your vocabulary.
