On Thursday, Education Minister Ramesh Pokhriyal Nishank announced that the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) will hold the board exams for classes 10 and 12 from May 4 to June 10. Through a live video on his Twitter account, Pokhriyal said that he had announced earlier that there will no exams till February because of the unpredictable situation. After deliberation on the current circumstances, they have come to the decision that board exams for classes 10 and 12 will be held from May 4 to June 10.
He also said that they want to get the copies evaluated on time and also have the results declared on time. By July 15, the results should be declared. From March 1, the practical exams will begin.
Pokriyal had said in an earlier interaction with teachers that the CBSE board exams will not be held in January-February. Citing the digital divide, he had also ruled out the possibility of holding the exams online. Same Thursday, the CBSE also issued a notification regarding the exams.

The notification signed by Controller of Examinations Sanyam Bharadwaj said that as the situation due to the pandemic is unprecedented, the board examination will commence from May 4, 2021, in order to ensure a conducive environment to the students for the exams and based on the feedbacks and consultations with diverse stakeholders.
It also said that the schools will be allowed to conduct practical exams or internal assessment of class 12 from March 1, 2021. This too applies for class 10 students.
In its notification, CBSE also said that the date sheet of both classes 10 and 12 will be issued soon. It said that all the stakeholders will also be informed by the CBSE about any information related to examination timely. On the CBSE website, all the information regarding this will be available.
