DUSU AND SFD UNITES AGAINST POLLUTION IN THE CAPITAL

In a city where the air quality index often hits alarming levels, the need for collective action to combat pollution has never been more crucial. Delhi, the bustling capital of India, has earned the unfortunate distinction of being the world’s most polluted city. Recognizing this crisis, the DUSU and SFD recently joined forces to organize an impactful event. The “Environmental Awareness Drive: YOUTH WALK.”

A Rally to Remember

The Environmental Awareness Drive: YOUTH WALK was a rallying call for the youth and concerned citizens. It aimed to unite against the rising pollution levels in Delhi. The event kick-started at the gate of SGTB Khalsa College on the North Campus. These students from various colleges, along with diverse members of the community, came together with a common goal.

Marching Towards Change

The participants embarked on a symbolic journey that transcended the boundaries of mere protest. They marched through the streets, amplifying their message of environmental responsibility. The rally included a special appearance by the NCC Cadets of Delhi University. They paused at significant locations, such as St Stephen’s College, before marching to the iconic Vivekananda statue. Which is in front of the Arts Faculty at Delhi University.

DUSU’s Commitment to Clean Air

Aprajita, the Secretary of DUSU, emphasized the significance of the Environmental Awareness Drive. She stated, “This event underscores the commitment of the DU Students’. She also encouraged the youth and the wider community in a collective effort to combat pollution and work towards a cleaner Delhi.” The event’s intent is clear: to address the root causes of pollution and inspire sustainable practices.

SFD Plea for Proactive Measures

Amit Verma, the convener of SFD North Campus, highlighted the multifaceted causes of pollution in Delhi. These causes range from vehicle emissions to hazardous gases released from factories, crop burning, and unfavorable weather conditions. Verma urged citizens to take proactive steps in the fight against pollution. One such measure is tree plantation drives, aimed at enhancing green cover, which can improve air quality. Additionally, the adoption of public transportation and alternatives like electric vehicles.
