The tenure of the existing DU VC will end on 10th March 2021. The procedure of finding the DU VC starts 6 months before the end of the existing VC’s tenure. However, there has been an unwanted delay this time. Hence, the Ministry of Education is considering extending the tenure of the current DU Vice-Chancellor, P C Joshi.

The search for a new DU VC:
Delhi University has a special committee solely for such recommendations. Hence, the recommendations committee was made under the provisions of the University of Delhi Act, 922. However, more than 100 professors have applied for the post of DU VC till date. This information was shared by the Ministry of Education about the new Vice-Chancellor.
The Delhi University, Search Committee is responsible for checking all the applications. Once the work of the search committee is over, the recommendation committee will start its job. Hence, after scrutinizing each application, certain names will be selected. These selected names will be put forward before the ministry of education. The education ministry will forward the names to the Indian President. Hence, one person will be selected by him as the Delhi University Vice-Chancellor (DU VC). The president plays the most important role in this appointment.

Will the current acting DU VC will be given an extension?
Hansraj Suman, in charge of DTA and a former member of Delhi University Academic Council, says that there is no activity from the education ministry’s side. Hence, they are not working on the appointment of the new DU VC right now. Also, the recommendation committee’s task of screening and scrutiny is not over yet. Therefore, it is not possible to make a new appointment anytime soon.
