A group of Delhi University (DU) teachers has been constantly demanding an in-house covid care facility on the campus. The covid-19 situation is getting grave in Delhi with unavailable hospital beds. Hence, amidst this crisis, the varsity needs to be accountable and helpful to its students and faculty. The Academic and Executive Council wrote the same grievance to the acting DU Vice-Chancellor.
What does the letter demanding covid care facility reads?
A group of DU teachers along with the Academic for Action and Development (AAD), a congress-backed teachers association wrote the letter. The letter emphasized the fact that the situation is far worse. It says, “Hundreds of teachers are running from pillars to post for a single bed in any available hospitals. Also, a few of them have died struggling for treatment.” Therefore, the varsity must understand the gravity of the situation and extend helping hands of care and compassion. The DU teachers have often held meetings for these covid care units, but all went in vain.
How can the covid care facilities be arranged in DU?
The covid-19 situation in the capital is terrible and there has been a constant crisis of beds for patients. It is expected that this crisis will increase in the coming days. Therefore, an in-house covid care facility is needed in DU campuses. The varsity could attach its guest house to WUS Health Centers and develop facilities for infected faculty members.

Steps to develop some beds with level 3 facilities should also be made. Also, urgent sanitation of the campus is required. Hence, the letter requested to adopt preventive measures and arrange home quarantine facilities for infected teachers.
