DU students are holding a strike against the campus authorities. They reason behind it is to reopen the campus. However, it’s been one month of their protest against online classes. In the national capital, the COVID-19 cases are low nowadays. So, now students are protesting outside the Arts Faculty against the authorities. Doing this, the officials may resume their physical classes. Although it’s been a month since their protest. Students are criticizing the Vice Chancellor Yogesh Singh for avoiding a word.
The student official bodies of the university, AISA are a part of this strike. They are urging the need of resuming physical classes for the students. Students said they will not stop their protest unless the officials release a notice. It includes the permission of holding in-person classes for the students.
STUDENTS MEET DEAN AND OTHER OFFICIALS TO DISCUSS THE REOPENING OF DU CAMPUS
Although undergraduate students are undergoing they are semester exams nowadays. Students are focusing more on their studies rather than on this protest. But once the exams get over, they will continue their protest. So, the officials may release a notice for reopening DU campus. The All India Forum for Right to Education are also going to be a part of this protest. The organization of AIFRE also met the Dean and Vice Proctor. They discussed about the reopening of DU campus. They also wanted to discuss several other issues. It was about the implementation of NEP and FYUP from the upcoming academic year.
RESERVED CATEGORY STUDENTS ARE MORE IN FAVOUR OF PHYSICAL CLASSES
The organization said that in the era of online education, students are emphasizing more on in-campus quality education. So, students from dalit and adivasi communities are in favour of reopening the campus. The disabled groups and backward areas are doing the same. Delhi University shut down the campus last year in March. Due to the coronavirus pandemic, it’s been almost two years since the campus is running online. Yet, colleges are conducting offline practical session of the students in February.
DU REOPENED FOR FINAL YEAR IN SEPTEMBER
But due to the second wave of coronavirus the varsity was running online. In September, final year students entered into the campus and attend their practical classes and laboratory work in a phased manner. However, the Dean of colleges of Delhi university Balaram Pani said that unless COVID-19 situation is completely over from different parts of the country, the varsity will hold online classes only.
As students from all over the nation reach Delhi university to continue their graduation and post-graduation, the varsity will monitor the situation for now and take the decision to reopen DU campus later.
