DU STUDENTS PROTEST AGAINST THE GAUSHALA AT HANSRAJ COLLEGE

Recently, a cow protection and research center, i.e. a gaushala have been opened at Hansraj College of Delhi University. Hence, this gaushala has sparked a buzz as the entire administration, staff members, and students are shaken by this decision. Delhi University students are unhappy with this gaushala and have started to protest against it. They believe that the area used as the cow center was supposed to be utilized as a women’s hostel.

More about the gaushala at Hansraj College:

Rama Sharma, the principal of Hansraj College spoke in favor of this cow research center. Hence, she has a view that there is only one cow at the center and it will carry out research activities. Also, as per her, the program will be expanded if the research is proved to be beneficial.

Students oppose the gaushala:

The Students Federation of India (SFI) has alleged that this gaushala is made on the place reserved for women’s hostel. Also, many other student bodies supported their protest. Hence, many Delhi University students carried placards and protested at the gates of the college. Those placards read slogans like – “Save Public Education”, “No to Saffronisation of Education”, “Prioritise Students Welfare”, and more.

Also, the student made it clear in their protest that any construction of a gaushala will not be tolerated. Hence, they demanded the construction of a women’s hostel like it was supposed to be.

Statement of the principal:

Principal Rama Sharma stated that the architects had told that no women’s hostel could be made as it was a setback area. Also, she added that making a women’s hostel is a dream project for her too. Hence, the administration will soon find a suitable place for it.
