New Delhi, May 29: Delhi University’s School of Open Learning (DU SOL) has announced major changes to its Bachelor of Arts (BA) curriculum. As part of the DU SOL new syllabus, two new Sanskrit subjects—Dharmashastra and the Vedas—have been added. These updates will begin from this academic year and aim to enhance student understanding of India’s cultural roots.
New Sanskrit Subjects Introduced
Second-year BA students, in their fourth semester, will now study:
- Sanskrit: Dharmashastra Studies (Minor)
- Sanskrit: Readings from the Vedas (Major)
These courses will follow DU SOL’s distance learning model, using Self Learning Material (SLM). The DU SOL new syllabus offers more flexibility, allowing students to study at their own pace from home.
Curriculum Based on NEP 2020 and UGCF 2022
The update follows the Undergraduate Curriculum Framework 2022 and National Education Policy 2020. Both promote a holistic education system. The DU SOL new syllabus blends ancient Indian wisdom with modern skills to prepare students for academic and life success.

DU SOL has approved 38 new subjects across different fields. This includes Value-Added Courses (VACs), General Electives, Discipline-Specific Electives, and Ability Enhancement Courses (AECs). All of these are part of the DU SOL new syllabus that supports career readiness and personal growth.
New VACs include:
- Sanskrit: Yoga – Philosophy and Practice
- Sanskrit: Panchkosha – Holistic Development of Personality
