Several student bodies like the Students Federation of India (SFI) and Delhi University Students Union (DUSU) have been constantly protesting for DU reopening. Hence, these student organizations had been protesting for approximately 2 months. But, on Monday, 3rd January 2022 they halted everything due to the rising number of covid cases.
DU reopening protest finally at a halt:
In the capital, covid-19 infection is rising tremendously day by day. Hence, the Delhi government has started imposing several restrictions including night curfews, weekend lockdowns, and others. So, considering the high risk, the indefinite DU reopening protest was halted. This was done on the auspicious day of the birth anniversary of social reformer Savitribai Phule.
DU reopening was never an option:
Aarushi Sharma, the Secretary of the Student Federation of India from Miranda House addressed the gathering. She stated that even when the situation was good, the Delhi University administration deliberately did not want to reopen its colleges. Hence, even when Delhi schools were operating full-fledged, DU reopening was out of the question. Also, she added that even though the VC claimed to reopen colleges, no efforts were taken by anyone afterward.

Hence, the administration deliberately turned a deaf ear towards the plea of thousands of students. Also, they forced the students to be a victim of the digital divide. This is because several students don’t have the luxury of smartphones/ laptops and a stable internet connection for online classes.
