Delhi university is shut down from March 2020. The varsity has now decided to reopen for science students of final year. The announcement of DU reopen was much awaited for the students and now finally students of science stream can resume their physical classes. But these physical classes are limited to practical work only. Theory classes would remain online only.

The varsity was going to implement this decision in April 2021 but the second wave did not allow it to do so. Finally, the call of DU reopen for undergraduate and postgraduate courses of science stream is made.

DU REOPEN WITH COVID-19 PROTOCOLS

The registrar of the university said that the varsity observed COVID-19 cases and came to this decision that they can resume classes for project and practical work from 16th August. Moreover, students should follow all the norms and protocols of the coronavirus pandemic while coming to the college.

FIRST DECISION OF DU REOPEN

After the emergence of the COVID-19 pandemic, no institute in Delhi took this decision of regulating physical classes. This is the first-ever decision that Delhi University took.

However, only final year students of the science stream of both undergraduate and postgraduate courses have permission to resume their physical classes. Classes for second-year students are not in operation and the varsity has not yet granted admission to first-year students. However, Delhi University will begin classes for second-year students.

The students from the science stream can reach the college for practical and project classes. On the other hand, teachers are finding it difficult to teach in half manner because half of the strength would be coming to college. On the other hand, the other half would find it difficult to attend physical classes.

IMPORTANCE OF PHYSICAL CLASSES FOR SCIENCE STUDENTS

Science students need hands-on experience on equipments and laboratory work. So, Delhi university’s authority took this decision of DU reopen. The respective hostels have also resumed their services but they cannot guarantee campus accommodations for the students who will return.

However, students are happy with this decision but teachers presented their concern over it. The Treasurer of the Delhi University Teachers Association said that DU took a remarkable step in this pandemic.

TEACHERS CONCERN OVER DU REOPEN DECISION

She exclaimed that it is easy to fix protocols but they should know how to follow them. The science department has more students than it should have. Moreover, how the university can expect students to return within 10 days and resume their classes and find accommodations for them.

The treasurer said that the varsity did not care how they should vaccinate family members of respective teachers but took the decision of reopening the colleges.
