An official notice issued by the DU registrar on 4th May 2021 says that DU online classes will be suspended for 2 weeks. Hence, all online teaching activities will be discontinued till 16th May 2021. Students have been constantly protesting against the conduction of online classes in such critical times. Therefore, the Delhi University took this decision with the approval of the complete authority.
The official statement says, “In view of sudden the surge in covid-19 cases, the online teaching shall remain suspended till 16th May in all the departments and colleges.”
Reason to suspend DU online classes:
Several Delhi University students and teachers along with their families are suffering from covid-19. The situation is even worse than the previous one as the infection is spreading in almost every household. Hence, the constant stress of attending online classes and keeping up with academic deadlines has made the environment highly unconducive.
The Delhi University Teachers Association (DUTA) shared figures that more than 600 teachers are tested covid positive. Also, students complained that often classes get suspended or rescheduled as some teachers or their families are battling against covid.
Therefore, the Delhi university teachers and students constantly requested to suspend DU online classes for a minimum of 2 weeks. There is so much mental pressure and death news around them already. So, they decided to suspend DU Online classes in all their departments and colleges.
DU STUDENTS WANT COMPLETE CANCELLATION OF EXAMS AND NOT JUST POSTPONEMENT
Exams also postponed along with the suspension of DU Online classes:
The varsity decided to defer final exams till 1st June 2021. A meeting was held including the DU vice-chancellor and all HoDs and deans. Many teachers are infected with covid-19 and unable to set question papers. Also, some students are suffering themselves and some are taking care of their infected families. The decision was taken considering all this.
