Delhi University has been asked to enable the functioning of the Grievance Redressal Committee. The Delhi High court has ordered the University of Delhi to ensure that the Grievance Redressal Committee be functional and active from Friday evening as per the directions of Delhi HC. Faculty of the Delhi University, Dr. Ajay Arora has been appointed as the sixth member of the committee.
The single-tier justice bench comprising Justice Pratibha Singh denounced the committee for not assembling. She pointed out that Dr. K. S. Rao, the GRC member had an interview with a newspaper however he did not communicate over the student’s problem with the Grievance Redressal Committee.
The court emphasized that Dr. Rao has the time to speak up in an interview but he does not possess time to conduct a meeting and discuss with the committee. She questioned that this is how a University academician should function?

PC Joshi, the Delhi University’s Pro vice-chancellor said that he has asked the Dean (examinations) to follow the directions of the court. Furthermore, he asserted that the issue with the Grievance Redressal Committee will be sorted out soon and the GRC will come into the function from Friday. Previously, the two lawyers who were representing GRC claimed that the University was not in touch with them. Moreover, the University did not provide the details and contact information of the faculty mentors of the University who were supposed to work as a member of GRC.
Earlier, Sachin Datta, the Delhi University council notified the court that the Delhi University has legislated the GRC error. One of the email IDs for grievance was delivering errors earlier, however, the University has corrected it. Justice Kohli said that these examination times are extraordinary times. She added that they have a lot to say about the problems confronted by the students due to the online OBE mode the University has adopted.

Previously, the University of Delhi filed an appeal in the court demanding the court to wave off its order. The University in its appeal asked HC to vanish the Grievance redressal committee set up as per the court’s order. While giving the nod towards conducting online OBE exams, the court issued certain directions to Delhi University. Formation of the Grievance Redressal Committee was directed by the court to deal with the student’s grievances.
