On Friday, 26 May 2023, the meeting was held in the Council Hall of the University of Delhi and lasted around 15 hours. During the meeting, several new courses were introduced and passed by the Academic Council (AC). And some changes done to the courses like adding VD Sawarkar to the political science syllabus for the first time.
They changed the syllabus of BA political science honours at Delhi University. They included a section on the Hindutva ideology of VD Savarkar for the fifth semester. However, the segment of Mahatma Gandhi’s has been shifted to the seventh semester.
This is the first time when they include VD Sawarkar in the political science syllabus. Earlier, only Mahatma Gandhi and BR Ambedkar was part of the syllabus. But Now, VD Sawarkar has been included in the fifth semester, Ambedkar in the sixth, and Gandhi in the seventh semester.
Poet Muhammad Iqbal dropped from DU Political Science Syllabus
In this meeting one more chance came to the syllabus, they removed the readings of poet Muhammad Iqbal from the syllabus. Precisely, Vice Chancellor (VC) Yogesh Singh gave his statement that “No room in the syllabus for those who sowed seeds of partition “.
Mr Singh also said that the person who gave the idea of Pakistan. And who had the ideology to divide India doesn’t deserve to be in the syllabus. Moreover, he emphasised studying B.R. Ambedkar more.
