DU Final year students who need access to the libraries and laboratories for their practical classes will be allowed to return. Hence, the Dean of Student’s Welfare (DSW) stated that final year students can return to their colleges in February. However, the theory class will continue via online mode and only practical work will restart in colleges.
The Dean of Students Welfare (DSW) held two meetings in total. The 1st meeting was with the college principals on January 5 and the 2nd with the Head of Departments on January 6. Hence, they did strategize the graded entry of DU final year students. The vice-chancellor chaired both meetings and the director of South Campus, dean of colleges, and the registrar also participated.
The UGC guidelines for university reopening issued on 5th November was also discussed in the meetings. Hence, DU will safely initiate the process of return of the final year students into their respective colleges in small sections. However, it is only for laboratory access and practical classes for now. Also, the student’s return will be voluntary and depends completely on the student’s will.
January will be fully dedicated to preparing standard operating procedures (SOPs). The varsity will make guidelines with UGC’s advice. Hence, all the Covid-19 protocols will be followed and student’s safety will be ensured. Therefore, classes will start from 1st February.
The Delhi University Students Union has also tried hard to help students return. Hence, it has submitted a memorandum to the DSW and the librarian of Central Reference Library demanding phased reopening of colleges and libraries. They had also demanded a mobile application that gives access to DU Library resources. Hence, the Union wants a phased re-entry, especially for the final year students who are losing credit points because of dismissed practical classes.
