Delhi university : The DU final term exams, earlier, were scheduled to begin in May. The University of Delhi is now all set to postpone the DU final year exams till June. The varsity has taken this decision due to a huge surge in the COVID-19 cases all across the nation.
The second wave of COVID-19 has enveloped and confiscated the entire nation and the effect is even more pronounced in the Capital city. Eyeing the perpetually worsening situation and a predicted peak in the cases in May, officials of the varsity have decided on deferring the DU final year examinations.
As per sources and inputs from a DU official, the DU final year exams will now be conducted from 1 June 2021. University will soon issue an official notification about the same.
Dean of examination, University of Delhi, D.S. Rawat said that in a meeting with all the heads of departments and Deans on Saturday, it has been decided that the DU final year exams will now be postponed to 1 June 2021. The Vice-Chancellor of the University chaired this meeting and the varsity will issue the official notification about the same on Monday.
An official further informed that the exam will still be conducted in an OBE mode only whereas for other batches and semesters, the decision will be taken later on.
D.S. Rawat also added that as of now the examinations for the intermediary batches stand canceled and what will be done regarding their results will be decided at a conducive point.
Both teachers’ and students’ associations/ bodies have been appealing to the University administration to defer the final year examinations.
DUTA, in a letter dated April 30, said the fact that attendance in online classes has dropped significantly shows how students are battling the illness of themselves and family members as well. Ang pretending to be unaffected and behaving in that manner will be deemed cruel. DUTA further urged the varsity administration to consider the situation of students and teachers as well. As no one in a condition to either conduct or write examinations, they requested to cancel the examinations for everyone and decide on alternative methods of evaluation later.
