DELHI UNIVERSITY TEACHERS ASSOCIATION has welcomed the UGC Committee recommendation which was headed by the Vice-chancellor of the Haryana University Prof. Kuhad to cancel the examinations for the final year students.
In the written press release, DUTA has also mentioned and welcomed the advisory given by the HRD Minister, Shri Ramesh Pokhriyal Nishank to the UGC to cancel the examinations and revise the guidelines of the academic year.
DUTA has been opposing the Varsity’s decision to hold the final semester/year examinations in the open book examination (OBE) Mode as they held it highly discriminatory towards a larger section fo the student community. They have been claiming that the open book method erodes the sanctity of the examination process.
The Teachers’ association declared it a victory of the collective efforts of students and teachers who have been protesting against the OBE. It is noteworthy that, within the time span of the past few days, several teachers and students were detained by the Delhi police for protesting against OBE near the ART’s FACULTY of the Delhi University North campus.
DUTA declares their stand vindicated with this announcement. Other students’ organizations including Krantikari Yuva Sangathan and National Students Union of India (NSUI) also picture this as a “victory” to all the efforts they have put in for the past few months.
The DUTA press release also stated “The DUTA hopes that good sense will now prevail on the DU Vice-Chancellor and urges him to cancel the OBE without any delay as future of more than 4 lakh students is at stake. Moreover, students ought not to be put to any further uncertainty and trauma in the current context.”
Although, no official decision or statement has been issued by the vice-chancellor of the university regarding the same.
Speculations point towards cancellation of the final semester examinations which are scheduled to commence from 1 July 2020. The mock tests are about to begin from tomorrow onwards.
Concerned Teachers and students of Delhi University are anticipating a favorable decision after the UGC recommendations and HRD Ministers’ statement but the final decision is yet awaited.
