According to the new guidelines released by the UGC, exams of final year students would be conducted by the end of September. DU exams would be conducted in online/offline mode or in blended mode.

All the educational institutions are temporarily closed due to the coronavirus pandemic. As many things were left to be undone and it is important to regulate the academic session, Universities have canceled exams of first and second-year students. Final year students are still left to appear for exams. Although many states like Punjab, Haryana has declared that Universities in those states would cancel exams of final year students. They have asked the respective colleges and Universities to frame some other rule to promote final year students as well. It is not safe for any institution to conduct exams in this situation.

STUDENTS AND TEACHERS ARE AGAINST FINAL YEAR EXAMS

But, final year students of Delhi University are still left to appear for their DU exams. Delhi University has decided to conduct online exams of students in the form of an open book test. Teachers and students are continuously protesting against it. As Delhi University offers education across India, students come from those areas too where they do not have access to a proper internet connection and electronic gadgets.

EXAMS FOR FINAL YEAR STUDENTS WOULD BE CONDUCTED IN THE MONTH OF SEPTEMBER

As it is important to grant equal opportunity to every student, UGC has decided to conduct exams for final year students. An expert committee is constituted by UGC to frame guidelines related to DU exams. As the cases of coronavirus are continuously rising, UGC requested the expert committee to frame new guidelines on the conduction of exams and also about the new academic session. In an urgent meeting of UGC, the committee released new guidelines on DU exams and also about the academic calendar. The committee stated that it is important to be safe in this worsening situation. It is a crucial time to ensure academic credibility and career opportunities for the students. Conduction of exams would ensure that students get equal opportunities and it instills confidence among them.

STUDENTS MAY APPEAR FOR SPECIAL EXAMS AS AN ALTERNATIVE

Exams of final year students will be conducted in the month of September in offline/online mode or in blended mode. It is compulsory for students who have a backlog to be evaluated on the basis of online/ offline or blended exams. Those students who would not be able to appear for DU exams in the month of September due to some reasons will be given an opportunity to appear for special exams. Those exams shall be given by the students as or when it is suitable to them so that students are not being put into any disadvantage or inconvenience. This decision taken by the special committee is only applicable to the academic session 2019-20. This is a one-time decision. UGC declared that decision of intermediate students shall remain unchanged. If some relevant information is to be issued for the Academic calendar, it will be issued separately.
