According to the information from the official document, the University of Delhi, DU has decided to increase the annual university development fee charged from the students given the reduction in capital grants by the UGC.

The University Development Fee (UDF) is a part of the fee charged by the students. DU had included the University Development Fee Committee to allocate funds for works. Such as in the construction of new buildings and the purchase of equipment in laboratories.

Presently, the varsity is charging Rs 600 as UDF from each student per year. Further, this was enforced in the academic session 2012-2013.

The committee said, “The University development charge should be revised due to the need for funds, the directive of the government to be self-dependent. And the reduction in a capital grant from the University Grants Commission (UGC). Plus, there is a need to set up ICT (Information and Communication) friendly infrastructure. Therefore, it should be done at Rs 900 annually per student.”

On December 17, Executive Council accepted the proposal of the committee. However, on this decision, a section of teachers says that this move will lead to a huge increase in the fees of the students.
