DU colleges to Offer IAS Coaching , Varsity Opposes | Know Whole Story

Two Colleges under Delhi University named Swami Shraddhanand College and Hansraj College are offering IAS coaching. Varsity said these educational institutions are purely government-funded. Therefore, they can’t provide such coaching. 

Since last year, Hansraj College has joined hands with Beacon Institute which is a private institute to provides coaching. Moreover, Swami Shraddhanand college issued an official notification offering this coaching. On this note, Balaram Pani, the University’s Dean of colleges said that proper inquiry would be done. Because the university didn’t permit me to do so. 

The Hansraj College website says that the fee will depend on the 12th percentile of a student. It stated that the minimum fee for three-year coaching is 75,000 INR. Whereas a maximum of 1,50,000 INR. Further, the course fee payment mode is Demand Draft, Cheque, or NEFT. The notification reads that admission to IAS coaching classes is open for all Delhi University students.

Decision was taken independently, says Principal of Shraddhanand

Praveen Garg, principal of Swami Shraddhanand College, told about their plan to begin coaching in a few months. As per their notification, the fee for three years is 1,50,000 INR. Also, the college will provide 25 percent scholarships. And, he also added that the decision was taken independently.

He said the introduction classes will begin in June 2022. And then, the enrollment of students begin. Mr. Garg adds, “We have given permission to the institute to hold classes on weekends in the seminar room. Most importantly, maximum student strength for a class will 80.”

Furthermore, Yogesh Singh, DU VC says he was unaware of the decision of operating such programs independently. Balaram Pani decided to call for a proper inquiry to be undertaken on the issue. He said, “They don’t have permission to run coaching in association with private institutes. These government-funded colleges can’t offer coaching to students who pay, according to which other students remain behind.”

Alok Pandey, Professor at Ramanujan College, DU said that in the first place if they want to run coaching they should charge a nominal fee. However, they are demanding a fee of lakhs. Therefore, the college raised the issue to stop such activities in the future.
