DU patent course

This year, DU colleges have noticed an increased interest in BA (Hons) Philosophy with almost half of the colleges that provide the course observing seats filling up in the UR category in the 1st list itself. This has happened for the first time in the last few years. College principals and teachers have mentioned the increase in the course’s popularity to lower cut-offs, a rise in involvement in the subject because of the unpredictable situation prevailing in wake of the coronavirus pandemic.

7 colleges have filled up their seats out of 15 colleges that offer the course and that for the unreserved category in the 1st list itself.

These not only have well-known colleges like Miranda House, which has also filled up seats for OBC, ST categories, and Kashmiri Migrants, Lady Shri Ram, Hindu College, and even off-campus colleges like Shyama Prasad Mukherji College and Lakshmibai College.

SCOPE OF DOING BA (HONS) PHILOSOPHY FROM DELHI UNIVERSITY | 7 KEY POINTS

Principal of Miranda House, Dr. Bijaylakshmi Nanda said seats for courses like Political Science (Hons) get filled up quite soon at high cutoff. However, BA (Hons) Philosophy is a preference for those students who have little fewer marks of 95 % to 98 % and students can get into a favorable college.

The course is also gearing up and is opted by many students. The seats for this course are filled in the first cutoff itself for this college.

A professor at the Department of Philosophy, Dr. Balaganapathi Deverakonda said that they have been struggling to popularize it for the last 4 to 5 years and during the epidemic, many colleges organized events on the significance of philosophy.

They further added that not just meditation and yoga but also functioning to popularize other concepts.
