The University of Delhi attracts a large number of registrations from all over the country every year. Delhi University’s registration process for the academic year 2020 began on June 20. Delhi University follows it’s own reservation policy and has special seats for reserved category students. This year due to coronavirus pandemic, the University has taken it’s admission process totally online. To address and aid students during the admission process the University is conducting webinars and uploading video tutorials to acquaint students with the process.
The University of Delhi recently uploaded a video to make students familiar with reservation policy being followed in the University. The video substantiated that the University offers reservation to the applicants belonging to:
- Scheduled Cast (SC) category
- Scheduled Tribe (ST) category
- Other Backward Classes (OBC), Non-creamy layer (Central List)
- Economically Weaker Sections (EWS)
The video clip emphasized on the reservation policy affirmed that no applicant can be excluded from the UR category just because the application belongs to or has applied under SC/ST/OBC/EWS category. The merit list or the cutoff list will also include the SC/ST/OBC/EWS applicants irrespective of their category if they meet the criteria of merit for UR category.

Documents Required to Claim Reservation
It was further made clear that only one document is required by the students to claim reservation I.e, a certificate issued by the competent authority. In the case of the SC/ST/OBC/EWS category, the certificate should be issued in the name of the candidate.
Scheduled Caste/Scheduled Tribe Reservation Policy
The applicant must possess SC/ST certificate in his own name. The certificate in the name of some other person will not be treated as valid.
The applicant’s caste and tribe must be listed in the appropriate schedule of the government of India. The Caste/Tribe certificates must clearly conclude the following:
- Name of the caste or tribe
- Specification of belonging to scheduled caste or scheduled tribe
- District of applicants place of residence
- The appropriate government if India Schedule under which the applicant’s caste/tribe is approved as SC/ST
- If the applicant does not have the certificate issued after 31st March, he/she can apply fir it and attach the acknowledgment slip at the time of registration
- At the time of admission, the applicant must possess the latest certificate issued after 31st March 2020
Other Backward Classes (OBC) Reservation Policy
- The reservation to OBC category is applicable to only the non-creamy layer which means the applicant’s family income should be below Rs 8lakhs per annum.
- The OBC certificate of the applicant must cite the non-creamy layer.
- The University of Delhi will only acknowledge the OBC list notified by the center or the central list of OBC.
- The University will only consider the certificates of the applicants belonging to the non-creamy layer of the category that is issued after 31st March 2020.

Economically Weaker Sections (EWS) Reservation Policy
- The candidates belonging to EWS are required to submit the certificates issued after 31st March 2020 for Delhi University admissions 2020.
- Students who do not possess the latest certificate can apply for the same online.
- Students who are unable to apply for the latest EWS certificate can apply for an income certificate for the financial year 2019-20 from the E-district portal.
