Shyam Lal College (SLC) is a co-educational constituent college of Delhi University and was established in the year 1946 by the great entrepreneur and vicinity Padmashree Shri Shyam Lal Gupta. The Chancellor of Delhi University and Vice President of India, Zakir Hussain, laid the foundation stone of Shyam Lal College. The college aims at the time of advent and making quality education accessible to its students especially girl students and students belonging to the economically weaker section. Since its establishment in the year 1964, it has covered a long way and has become a center of quality education at the University of Delhi.
Shyam Lal College offers nine undergraduate programs in varied streams of commerce, science, and humanities and one postgraduate program in Hindi. The University also approved two new courses for the SLC I.e., Chemistry (Hons.) and Mathematics(Hons.) in the academic year 2017-18. The college comprises a capacity of educating over 4000 students. The faculty of SLC is highly educated and consists of 87 non-teaching staff and 132 teachers. Along with undergraduate courses, Shyam Lal College also offers various certificate and diploma courses in Japanese, Korean, French, Spanish, Chinese, German, and mastering the stock.
To fulfill the surging pedagogical demands, the SLC recently upgraded its academic and infrastructure facilities. The college enables every student and staff with access to the internet and has become a wifi zone. Recently the college integrated an entirely new building on campus – the Porta Block. Its seminar room has also been equipped with the latest ICT facility. Most of the lecture rooms in the main building have been equipped with various facilities including an LCD projector. There is a total of seven well-equipped labs in college for undergraduate students – Biology Lab, Physics Lab, Electronics Lab, Chemistry Lab, and three computer labs. The office, library, and canteen of SLC have recently been renovated to find air-conditioned spaces. The entire campus of SLM is under CCTV supervision.
SLC has a well-stocked and rich ICT enabled library. The library consists of more than 76000 subscribe journals and books on diverse subjects. The library also comprises of an OPAC facility to make the work of finding books easier for its students and the faculty staff. The college further comprises of a fully air-conditioned knowledge center where teachers and students can gain adequate knowledge through resources by accessing the world’s best e-journals, database, reports, and e-books expeditiously and easily.

At the postgraduate level, Shyam Lal Morning college offers M.A. in Hindi. Out of the total seats offered in M.A. in the Hindi course offered by the college, a total of 17 seats are allotted to students belonging to the Department of Hindi. Ram Lal Anand College offers admission based on merit as well as based on the entrance exam conducted by Delhi University. For seeking admission based on merit students are required to score a minimum of 65% marks in B.A. Hindi (Hons.) whereas for admission based on entrance test, students are required to score a minimum of 40% to get eligible for seeking admission.
