Dr. Suman Kumar, a Member of the admission branch and an associate professor of Delhi University in an online live session with Times of India held on 19th June 2020 cleared the admission process of Delhi University. The admission process of Delhi University is likely to begin from today I.e, June 2020.

In the live session with Delhi University’s member of the admission Branch, which attracted a large number of students, Dr. Suman Kumar told: “University was planning to opt for online admission even before the Coronavirus crises came in India”. Dr. Kumar stated, “the idea for online admission was already there and the University was planning to ease the students from traveling to Delhi for admission purposes”. Delhi University is formulating strategies for the smooth functioning of the admission process.

Entrance based and Merit-based Admissions 2020

The Delhi University take admission based on the entrance test as well as based on merit scores. The University will release the common form for both Merit as well as entrance based admission. Students can not for all the courses if their choices through one single form.

Entrance-based Admission:

Delhi University conducts entrance test for both UG and PG courses. The entrance test is mainly conducted for premium courses and at present, there are seven premium courses offered by Delhi University. NTA (National Testing Agency) conducts the entrance test for Delhi University.

As per Dr. Suman Kumar, the process for the entrance test for admission in Delhi University is yet to be decided by NTA and Delhi University. He further included “the University will conduct entrance exams in late July only after JEE and NEET exams get over”.

Merit-Based Admission

For merit-based admission, Dr. Suman Kumar in the live session with TOI told “Delhi University is likely to release only 5 cutoffs this year. Students willing to take admission in DU can follow the N+1 formula. Students will have four chances to change their college or course. A student can withdraw his/her admission in the next cutoff and can apply to some other college.”

According to Dr. Suman Kumar, Delhi University will release a special drive after releasing five cutoff lists. The special drive will be released for those students who didn’t take admission in any of the previous cutoffs. The professor further declared that by tomorrow 10 AM the Delhi University will make the admission portal online. The portal will remain open for the next 15 days and will close on 4th July at 5 PM.

Registration Process

Dr. Suman Kumar in the live Facebook session with TOI explained the entire admission procedure. He asserted that students are required to register themselves on the DU portal to further take part in the admission process. Next, they are required yo upload Al the requisite documents. The documents that are to be uploaded are class 10th mark sheet, category certificate( only if belongs to reserved category). For OBC and EWS category students are required to plaid the recent certificates that are issued after 31st March 2020. Delhi University will later open the portal once the class 12th result is declared so that the students can update their class 12th mark sheet. Students are also required to submit the scanned or soft copies of the photo and signature of the candidate.

He further included that the university has fixed the size that has to be followed for submission of the documents. Once the documents have been submitted, students are required to pay the form fees online. Later, the University will send a notification SMS for the confirmation of the fee payment.

ECA & Sports Quota

DU professor on ECA and sports trial concluded that no sports and ECA trial will be done this year due to coronavirus pandemic. The admission in sports and ECA quota will be given based on certificates. Previously, DU had 11 categories in ECA. The professor in the live session told students that the categories have been reduced to 2 I.e, NCC, and NSS. For NCC and NSS, students are required to upload their best five certificates whereas for sports quota three certificates are mandated.

Students are required to upload the certificates from the last three years. Certificates of the last three years starting from 31st March 2017 will be considered. After the admission process, the University administrators will mark the certificates based on the level and number of camps.

Cut-offs (High or Low)

When asked about cutoffs, Dr. Kumar added that the cutoffs for the year are unpredictable. The cutoffs can be Himalayan high or very low. The cutoffs entirely depend upon the number of applications and the class 12th marks.

He included that its possible that students might not come to Delhi for higher studies due to coronavirus pandemic. The cut-offs for this academic year are unpredictable and uncertain. He included that for humanities and commerce courses best four subjects are considered ( out if which one has to be a language) and for admission in science courses the best three courses will be evaluated for admission. While there is no special provision for drop year students. The same rules and guidelines will be applicable for the students who opted for drop year.

PWD Students

Dr. Kumar added that the university had already issued guidelines for the PWD category students. Students falling under this category can visit any nearby Common Service Centre. Like every year, a separate cutoff list will be released for PWD category students by the Delhi University.

Commencement of Classes

The University will start the classes for the intermediate students from August whereas classes for fresher students will begin in September. Dr. Kumar told the students “if the situation prevails the same the University will continue with the online classes.”

Admission for Post Graduate courses will begin soon. He told students that the University will soon begin the admission for postgraduate courses after the UG course results get declared.
