Students who are thinking to take admission to Delhi University on the basis of their issued certificate faces problem this year. Certificates issued after March 30, 2020, will only be accepted for DU admission.

Delhi University admission has already begun and children are ready to enter into a new world with many hopes. As it is known by everyone that the cut-off list of Delhi University is beyond the mark every year, this year also many students will fill the application form to get the college of their choice. Delhi University admission is divided into many categories. There are different sections made for admission criteria on the basis of which DU aspirants can take admission. The categories are general category, OBC, SC/ST, and EWS. Students belong to any of them except the general category has to submit their certificate for a proof along with all the necessary documents.

CERTIFICATES ISSUED AFTER MARCH 30, 2020 WILL BE ACCEPTED

This year, as there are many cases of COVID-19 and the nation was under lockdown, all the institutions were closed. According to the university, this year the authority has declared that those students who are seeking for DU admission under backward class (OBC) or economically weaker section (EWS) have to get new certificates attesting to their eligibility issued. But, how would students manage to get a new certificate in such a pandemic? University has said that they will accept only those certificates that are issued after March 30, 2020. So this is the main problem faced by DU aspirants this year.

CERTIFICATES ARE MANDATORY TO SEEK DU ADMISSION

Government attested certificates are mandatory to get DU admission under these categories. Many Delhi University teachers have asked the administration, whether they can admit the students on the basis of previously issued certificates as they would it, it is difficult for them to get their certificates during coronavirus pandemic. But the administration wants certificates to be issued after March 30, 2020. Still, the university has granted permission to those students who are going to take admission that then can attach an acknowledgment slip while filling up the admission form stating that they will get their certificates along with them at the time of admission to a particular college.

As covered by Hindustan Times, a student named Anjali Mandal visited the Sub-divisional Magistrate’s Office in Mehrauli to get an OBC certificate. She said that due to the coronavirus crises, they’ve to fill the form for the OBC certificate online as all the staff members are occupied with the duty of COVID-19. So she tried to fill the form online on the doorstep delivery website but the website is not working properly. If applied online, the officials from SDM’s office have to visit her home for verification. She said that she is compromising the safety of her family members. She asked the administration why they cannot take admission on the basis of a previously issued certificate?

An official from the SDM office said against the statement that the website is working properly and they are receiving applications. As staff members are on their COVID-19 duty, so they cannot come home for verification. However, officials are trying to solve this problem and said that there may be some delay but they are trying to issue the certificates as soon as possible.
