Kamala Nehru College was inaugurated on 20th July 1964. Kamla Nehru College was initially known as ‘Government College for Women’ and was located in Defence Colony. The college started with courses only in humanities but later the commerce stream was also added. When the college was commenced, it only had sixteen staff members, and 209 students passed out in the initial batch in 1968. The College Magazine ‘Swati’ was inaugurated in the academic year 1965-66. On 21st November 1972, the foundation stone for a modern building was laid at Hauz Khas ( presently August Kranti Marg) by then President Shri V.V.Giri. The college got a fresh name and it came to be known as Kamla Nehru College. In 1974, at the ceremony of Founder’s Day, Mrs. Indira Gandhi visited the recent building and planted saplings in the campus area.
