Deshbandhu College Delhi University was inaugurated in the year 1952 by the Ministry of Rehabilitation, in the remembrance of Late LalaDeshbandhu Gupta – a veteran freedom fighter. The college made a humble opening with just 72 students and courses like Prep(arts), Prep(science), and Pre-medical. Afterward, the college was switched to the ministry of education and later taken over by the University of Delhi.
Presently, Deshbandhu College Delhi University is a fully upheld constituent college of the University of Delhi. Moreover, it has the stature of being the oldest and the biggest co-educational institution in South Delhi publicizing Arts, Commerce, and Science courses. The college proposes seven postgraduate and eighteen undergraduate courses in disciplines.
The course ranging from languages/literature, history, political science, economics, commerce to all the important sectors of science and mathematics. Under the National Loan Scholarship Scheme, those students who have obtained a first division (60% marks or more) in their last examination can apply for a loan scholarship through the college. In addition, the college has a financial assistance fund with the objective of extending financial assistance to needy students.
Deshbandhu College offers multiple courses from Science, Commerce, and the arts. However, the best course among them is- BA. (Political Science Hon., Mathematics Hon.) and BSc.
Deshbandhu College has accredited with B++ NAAC grade with 2.8 points. It is indexed 96th across India by NIRF in 2020.

There are two ways by which students can take admission in post-graduation courses.
Type I (Direct Admission): A prospect applying under this category would have to enroll oneself by filling in a form in person with the Non-Collegiate Women’s Education Board (NCWEB).
Category II (Through Entrance Test): The online registration would be conducted for those seeking admission to the PG courses under the faculty of Arts/Commerce/Science via Entrance test. Also, Interviews would be taken for admission into PG courses. The registration fee for General/ OBC candidates is INR 500 per course whereas the enrollment payment for SC/PwD/ST candidates is INR 250.
