All those candidates who wish to seek admission in Music courses at Delhi University for the 2020-21 academic session will need to upload their performances on youtube as part of their practical entrance tests.

This move has been necessitated due to restrictions imposed due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The varsity officials said that the candidates will be shortlisted on the basis of these videos for an online interview.

Delhi University has made a temporary shift to the alternative admission process due to COVID-19 for those candidates who wish to apply for music, sports, sports science, and physical education courses. The same move has been initiated for admissions under the extra-curricular activities (ECA) quota.

As per the Discussions in the meeting held by Delhi University’s admission committee on May 26 to discuss possibilities in view of the ongoing coronavirus disease (Covid-19) crisis.
Several alternative plans have been suggested by a subcommittee for sports, ECA, and performance-based admission which can be adopted this year.

The minutes of the meeting state that the committee, after detailed deliberation decided the alternative plan for admission under ECA, sports, music, and physical education, under the prevalent condition due to Covid-19, for having only an online admission process.
DU’s highest academic body said that these minutes were approved by the standing committee of the university’s academic council on June 10.

A member of the standing committee, Arun Kumar Attree, said that it is not possible to call students physically to the campus for auditions or trials so they have decided to skip them entirely for this year.

There will be online entrance exams for music courses by the faculty of music and fine arts, and for physical education courses, admissions will be on the basis of merit certificates.
The Sub-committee has suggested that the candidates, seeking admission in undergraduate and postgraduate courses, will upload a video of their seven-minute performance on YOUTUBE. These videos need to be marked as unlisted (unlisted videos are not for public viewing). The uploaded video link then needs to be submitted by the candidates along with their admission application form on the DU admission portal.

Then the candidates who will be shortlisted from those will be called for the online interview. The online interview for the final selection of candidates for admission to UG and PG courses of music faculty will be conducted by the admission committee.
Delhi University has three types of music courses that it offers to the students.

The physical fitness tests for admissions to BSc and MSc courses in Physical Education, Health Education, and Sports, and Bachelor of Physical Education will also be skipped by DU this year.

A member of the admission committee said that due to the prevailing circumstances, physical tests and trials cannot be conducted this year. Instead, the candidates might have to upload a self – declaration certificate of his/her fitness along with a medical certificate.

The entrance test will be conducted for these courses, which will be informed shortly.
The National Testing Agency, which is a nodal agency for conducting all such premier entrance exams in the country will shortly announce the modalities of the entrance exams.

Delhi University has also decided to not conduct trails for admissions under the sports and ECA categories this year. 5% supernumerary seats are reserved under these two categories in all DU colleges collectively in each course.

A member of EC, Rajesh Jha said that there can be many issues with candidates in uploading videos online. He said that many candidates may not have 5% supernumerary seats are reserved under these two categories. Online interviews are going to be very difficult for many students, he added.
