DMRC, Delhi Metro Rail Corporation, can start its services shortly. Cabinet Minister Hardeep Singh Puri said that the meeting regarding restarting the metro operations will be held within the next two weeks.

The ministry has pushed for reopening the transportation system as metro authorities are suffering massive losses. Also,  without metros, road traffic is getting worse.

The decision regarding resuming metro services in various metropolitan cities would be taken in two weeks, according to Hardeep Singh Puri.   He handles the portfolio of housing and urban affairs along with civil aviation, has recently said in an interview. Standard operating procedures were prepared months ago when the first phase of lockdown begun in June.

Standard operating procedures (SOPs) on opening Metro (transport) networks over the next two weeks are in place but it would be in a staggered way with occupancy not surpassing 50 percent capacity for government servants, healthcare employees, and other necessary services, Puri contended.

Certainly, in the fourth phase of unlocking,  the metros will restart in the cities.  In early September, unlock 4.0 will take place. However, the states with a rising number of coronavirus patients might not allow metro services.

In Unlock 3, the central government allowed opening gyms. But in Delhi, they are still closed. The District Magistrate of Delhi said that he hasn’t received any information regarding the opening of the fitness center by the state government.

Earlier, the central government has permitted to open hotels. However, due to heightening  COVID cases,  the Delhi government refused the idea.
