The Department of Social Work, Delhi University plans to organize an International Webinar Series on ‘Gandhian Thoughts and Social Work Practice.’

It will take place on Friday i.e. 2nd October 2020, celebrating the birth anniversary of Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi popularly known as Mahatma Gandhi. The students can tune in at 2: 00 pm to attend the webinar.

This year will witness the 150th anniversary of a great leader, Mahatma Gandhi. The Father of Nation had an unbiased vision of India. He believed and thrived to make our country free of gender, caste, or religious prejudices and overcome economic disparities. His teachings are widespread and still appreciated. They have transcended time and space. His birth anniversary marks the perfect day to remember his lessons and abide by them every day.

The Gandhian principles of selflessness and values about non-violence mark the foundation of Social Work. We know these principles as facts but we need to continuously remind ourselves and re-emphasize them.

On this note, the Department of Social Work, Delhi University is organizing a series of international webinars during October 2020. Everyone interested in the theme can attend the webinar and participate in further events. Researchers, Faculties, students of the Department of Social work from India and abroad, members of various NGO’s and everyone is invited to book a spot.

The speaker for the occasion is Professor Bidyut Chakrabarty, Vice-Chancellor of VISvA BHARTI University. He will address the question that “How to conceptualize Gandhi?”

He used to be the Professor of Political Science at the University of Delhi. He pursued his Doctorate from the eminent London School of Economics, United Kingdom. Moreover, he has many books published in his name from huge publishers.

He is famous and acknowledged for his original contributions to Mahatma Gandhi’s social and political thoughts. Many of his literary contributions are appreciated like his book ‘Confluence of Thought: Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi and Martin Luther King.’ Professor Bidyut Chakraburthy is a much-admired academic.

Not only in India, but he has held academic assignments in various places around the world. Adding to his brilliance, he is a visiting professor to universities in UK, Australia, and Singapore. He is the first person to bear the ‘Mahatma Gandhi Chair for Global Nonviolence’ at James Madison University, Virginia, USA.
