On 30th May 2020 University of Delhi reader it’s revised academic calendar for the academic year 2019-20 on its official website. The dates for evaluation of practical and internal exams, summer vacation, the commencement of the new session, and examinations for final year students have been amended as per the guidelines of the University Grants Commission (UGC) in the new academic calendar.
As per the revised academic calendar released on the website the exams for all the final year, students will be administered from July 1 to July 31. As per the previous notification, the University will conduct exams in an open-book format.
Summer Vacation 2020
As per the notification of the revised academic calendar released by the University, the summer vacation will be from 13th June to 30th June for all the Delhi University students. University will finish all the work and make all the arrangements for OBE before beginning the summer vacations. The University staff members, as well as the faculty members, will make all the arrangements for the Open book exams.
The notice for the revised academic calendar was released after the lockdown was further extended till June 30. As the extension of lockdown demanded the shutdown of all the educational institutions till 30th June.
As per the University’s revised academic calendar internal assessments, evaluation of practical exams, project work, and assignments, dissertation, fieldwork, setting up of question papers, amendments for end sem exams should be made by June 12.
Open Book Examination for Final Year Students
The University of Delhi in an earlier notice declared that University has opted for the Open Book Exams mode. The University will conduct OBE for all the final year students due to the Coronavirus pandemic. As per the revised academic calendar, the exams will begin from 1st July and will end by 31st July 2020. The University of Delhi has already released the datasheet on the University’s official website.
A number of students and faculty members have opposed the University’s decision to conduct Open Book Exams for the final year students. The students and teachers are OBE, as all other students except the final year students are being promoted on the basis of past years’ performance. Many final year students believe that they are not in a condition to appear for Open Book Exams. They claimed that they are not mentally stabled to deal with the exams in the middle of the Coronavirus pandemic.
New Academic Session
After holding the Open Book Exams for final year students, the University has planned to start the new semester from 1st August 2020. As per the revised academic calendar, the classes for the fresh batch are to be begun from 1st September 2020.
