Delhi University undergraduate and postgraduate students will now have the advantage to study in the mother tongue. To curtail the language barrier, Delhi University has decided to translate and issue all the textbooks in various regional languages. The University has further set up a high-level committee to execute this scheme.
Prof. Balram Pani, Dean of Colleges said that UG and PG course books of physics, mathematics, biology, chemistry, and other coursebooks including Bengali, Hindi, Tamil, and other regional languages will be translated. All the heads of colleges and departments have been asked to formulate a list of the names of around 10 outstanding books on the syllabus.
Once this list is obtained, the procedure of getting the translation done through translators, and researchers will begin. Delhi University administration is going to conduct a meeting very soon regarding the selection of procedures of regional languages. The language and area from where a large number of students belong to will be given priority in translation, said a DU official.
Delhi University administration said that a webinar was conducted on Research, Education, and Skill Development for self-reliant India. The webinar was addressed by the Prime Minister of India, Narendra Modi.
Dean of Colleges Prof. Balram Paani, Acting Vice-Chancellor Prof PC Joshi, and other officials attended the webinar. In the webinar, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said that there is no scarcity of talent in India, but the need is to remove the language barrier to deliver knowledge in Indian languages. This is not at all impossible in this digital era. On the advice of PM Narendra Modi, Delhi University has started to implement this scheme.
