Delhi University professors on Saturday protested work with no salaries and further faced detention. Saturday, September 5 was ironically celebrated as Teacher’s day. The University professors working since the lockdown have not received their salaries of the past five months. On 5th September, the University professors raised their voices against the Delhi University North Campus and therefore faced detention. These Delhi University colleges get their funds from the Delhi Government.

Teachers who participated in the protest on 5th September said they are orchestrating a protest against the Kejriwal government because they are facing financial crises amid coronavirus lockdown. They added that they are not even in a position to pay their children’s school fees. The protest held by Delhi University Teachers on the auspicious Teachers Day for demanding the release of their salaries took them to jail.

Dr. Chaman Singh and Dr. Sangeet Sharma, Delhi University Professors said that due to the nonpayment of salaries we are not able to fulfill our daily needs. Furthermore, they said that they have been constantly requesting the Delhi Government to release their payments.

The protests for the release of salaries was also joined by the Teachers Union as well as by DUTA (Delhi University Teachers Association). However, all the teachers protesting on 5th September were later arrested by the police.

Release of Inadequate Funds By APP Government for DU Professors

The University of Delhi and the AAP government are withstanding over the formation of DU governing bodies in 28 DU colleges. These colleges are fully and partially funded by the Delhi government.

Professors from these twelve fully funded colleges of Delhi University have contended that the AAP government has provided insufficient funds and salaries of DU professors have not been released yet.

DUTA DEMANDS PERMANENT APPOINTMENT OF 5000 TEACHERS IN DELHI UNIVERSITY

An investigation for the prevailing matter of the release in due salaries has been called upon to the controller auditor general by the Delhi Teachers Association. The teachers of the University of Delhi have been taking the online classes since mid-March while their salaries are not yet released since the lockdown was imposed.
