DELHI UNIVERSITY STUDENTS UPSET OVER RS 750 BEING CHARGED FOR DOWNLOADING DIGITAL DEGREES

While, Delhi University became the first Indian University to award digital degrees to over 1,78,719 students on the auspicious occasion of its 97th convocation ceremony on Saturday, students are upset over University’s procedure charging Rs 750 for downloading digital degrees.

However, upset over the fee being charged a DU student tweeted “Delhi University is charging a fee for the digital degree. I’m just glad they don’t charge a fee on the air we inhale inside campuses.”

Usually receiving a degree is equivalent to receiving an award however University of Delhi is charging Rs 750 from its students to receive their own graduation degrees. Upset DU students are questioning University by saying whether if every DU student will be able to afford to pay for getting their degrees. DU students say that this is not digital India rather biased India.

Delhi University 97th Annual Convocation Ceremony

Owning to the ongoing coronavirus situation, the 97th convocation ceremony of DU was held in a hybrid manner including a mix of both physical and online modes.

It is for the first time of not just Delhi University but of all the Indian Universities that with a click of a button over 1,80,000 students received their undergraduate or postgraduate degrees in various disciplines in their mail.

Over 36 prizes and 156 medals were also awarded to the DU students in person by Ramesh Pokhriyal, the Union Education Minister who was invited as the chief guest for the ceremony. Over 44 DM/M CH degrees and 600 doctoral degrees were also awarded in person during DU’s 97th convocation ceremony.

Mr. PC Joshi, DU’s acting vice-chancellor while speaking about the University’s achievement said that the institute has emerged as a front runner in establishing new hallmarks in the field of academics, be it creating a smooth evolution to the online mechanism, conducting open book exams, adopting methods of digital learning, or having contactless admissions.
