A new circular has been issued at Delhi University. Through this circular, attendance records are being sought from college teachers and non-academic staff belonging to Delhi University from April till now. According to the teacher organizations, efforts are being made to recover their Transport Allowance (TA) from teachers at Delhi University. According to the teachers’ organization Delhi Teachers Association (DTA), colleges do not have any record of attendance of teachers during the Corona period. In such a situation, there is an attempt to recover the Transport Allowance (TA) from the teachers if there is no record of college teachers and staff. The DTA condemned the action and demanded the Central Government to immediately withdraw the circular.

Professor Hansraj Suman, in-charge of the Delhi Teachers Association (DTA), the teacher organization of the Aam Aadmi Party said, “If the principal of the colleges recovers the transport allowance from the teachers, then the DTA will agitate on a wide scale in the university.

Professor Suman said that every college has been seeking attendance records since April 2020 so far. He says that there has never been a system of attendance of teachers at Delhi University. Teachers’ class is their presence. It is the presence of students that they have come to college. A delegation of the Teachers Association will meet Delhi Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia to ensure that the Transport Allowance (TA) is not recovered in the 28 funded colleges under the Delhi government. Sisodia will be demanded not to recover transport allowance from teachers of Delhi government colleges.

Professor Suman also says that the central government had instructed not to leave the house in lockdown and now it is very worrying to make recovery in the name of transport allowance from teachers if they do not attend colleges. They say that if the transport allowance of teachers is recovered, their entire salary will be lost. Similarly, in the month of January, teachers are being taxed as income tax, on the other hand, on the basis of the circular sent by the central government, recovery of teachers is being done in the name of transport allowance.
