The officiating Vice-Chancellor at DU, Prof. PC Joshi recently stated that the University of Delhi is looking to set up campuses abroad to make the most of the National Education Policy (NEP 2020).
Joshi asserted that they are aiming to expand the scope of the NEP 2020 across the world. The revised NEP has brought up a number of bright opportunities to the Universities and therefore wants to make the most out of it. He added that we are looking to expand our campus out of India and further establishing campuses in Singapore, Dubai, and Mauritius.
He further added that we have a powerful alumni network based in sub-continents of South Asia and we wish to channel University’s resources to build up a strong international presence.
Joshi comprehends how in 2020 despite the coronavirus pandemic, Delhi University has witnessed a rise in the number of admissions by international students taking up its courses. The officiating VC said that the ongoing coronavirus pandemic and the resulting nationwide lockdown gave rise to a number of problems for educational institutions, however, Delhi University received applications for admission from over 80 countries.
As per the reports, the University of Delhi is among one of those seven institutes that the government has shortlisted under its IoE scheme (Institutes of Eminence scheme) which was first launched in the year 2018 with an objective to put India on the map of global education. At present, the presence of India on the global excellence list is negligible with the top universities failing to accentuate among the best 100.
Earlier this month, the University Grants Commission (UGC) waved the green flag to Institutes of Eminence to establish offshore campuses as part of accomplishing NEPs proclaimed intent of internationalization of education.
