On Monday 15 June 2020, the University of Delhi on its official website posted a notification for all the Delhi University students residing in DU hostels. The notification furnishes the statement that the students who left their belongings in the hostels can now visit their hostels and collect all their essential stuff.

The notification is issued by the Dean of students’ welfare allowing students to collect their laptops, study material, books, and all other essential stuff. The notification states that all the bonafide residents residing in the University of Delhi maintained hostels who may have temporarily vacated the hostels are allowed to collect their books, laptops, study material and other essential belonging from their respective hostel rooms.

Students To Pre-inform The Hostel Authorities

As per the notice, students who wish to collect their belongings can come to the hostel gate and hostel authorities will help them in handling them their belongings. The notice advice the students to inform in advance to the hostel authorities rather than coming directly. The students are required to inform the authorities well in advance before visiting the hostel.

Guidelines For PwD Students

The notification presented special guidelines for PwD students who want to get their essential stuff back. The notification says that students falling under the PwD category may authorize a person on their behalf to collect their belonging from the hostels. The notification further states that the authorized person must carry the authorization letter with him/her from the student along with the room key and valid ID proof. The respected hostel shall allow the material and stuff to be taken under indemnity and at the sole risk of such residents of the hostels.

Safety Measures and Precautions

The notification issued by the University of Delhi says that the hostel authorities and the students must take all the safety measures and precautions while visiting the hostels. The students and hostel authorities must ensure wearing a mask, maintaining social distancing, and avoiding physical contact during the entire event. The health department of the University has also asked hostel authorities to keep the sanitizers at the hostel gates.

The University of Delhi is shut down since March 16 due to the Covid-19 outbreak. Since then University has been taking online classes and conducting all the webinars and events online. A number of Delhi University students left the hostel premises even before Holi during Mid-semester break and did not take away the necessary essentials or the study material with them.

The students of the University of Delhi who live in various parts of the country were putting forward all their problems which included the lack of material and books. The University has issued the notification in regard to helping students get back their stuff and continue their learning.
