Delhi University New Session has officially started, welcoming thousands of freshers to one of India’s most prestigious campuses. The beginning of the academic year at Delhi University brought life back to the North Campus, filled with energy, colours, and new hopes. Students from across the country arrived on campus with excitement and dreams of starting their college life.
On Friday, colleges held orientation programmes to help students adjust to the new environment. The event introduced students to academic rules, societies, and other campus activities. Many freshers arrived early, dressed in trendy outfits and carrying bags packed with essentials. Some used mobile maps to find their way, while others followed groups or received help from seniors.
The atmosphere on campus reflected the spirit of the Delhi University New Session. From busy streets to buzzing canteens, every corner was alive with movement and chatter. Students visited popular spots like Kamla Nagar Market and the famous chole-kulche stall near the Arts Faculty. Many had seen these places in YouTube vlogs and wanted to try them themselves.
The new academic year also introduced the first official batch of undergraduate fourth-year students. However, most colleges either declared a holiday or saw low attendance for these students. Colleges like Kirori Mal and Lady Shri Ram College for Women reported very few students in fourth-year classes. Some colleges, like Shaheed Bhagat Singh College, cancelled classes for all years but continued with orientation events.
Parents were seen at campus gates, eager to explore the college and city their children would now call home. Many seniors volunteered as guides for new students, helping them locate classrooms and hostels. The energy across campuses reflected the excitement and nervousness of starting something new.
Students who had recently shifted to Delhi from cities like Kanpur and Kolkata looked forward to living the “DU dream.” They were excited to make new friends, join societies, and enjoy college life. Some students moved in with siblings already working in the city. Others received pocket money from their parents to explore the area on their first day.
A large number of students showed interest in joining cultural and academic societies. Dance, music, theatre, and debate clubs received special attention from freshers. Seniors encouraged new students to explore and sign up for clubs that suited their interests.
According to Delhi University Vice Chancellor Yogesh Singh, the start of the Delhi University News Session went smoothly across all colleges. He added that around 31,004 out of 71,000 eligible students had chosen not to opt for the fourth year. This means that nearly 55% of students have agreed to continue with the optional final year.
The university also released updates related to the admission process. An upgradation and preference reordering window will open at 5 PM on Saturday and will close on Sunday. The upgraded allocations will be released on August 5. A list of vacant seats will be available on August 8. Mid-entry applications can be submitted between August 8 and 10. The third allocation list will be declared on August 13. The entire admission process for the Delhi University New Session will close on August 19.
As of 6 PM on Friday, the admission of 71,366 students had been confirmed. This marks a strong beginning for the Delhi University New Session, ensuring that thousands of students are now officially part of DU.
The launch of the Delhi University New Session is not just a new start for students, but also a return to regular campus life after a long wait. With fresh energy and updated academic plans, Delhi University is ready to move ahead into another successful year.
